one on one
One On One
I have a husband, four kids, and a dog who ALL love having my undivided attention. (And a grandson on the way who will also soon fall into that category!)
It doesn’t matter if I’m cleaning the house and talking with them or, for my husband, I can be sitting right next to him while being with my kids and he will say to me, way too often, “I miss you”. We can even have been together ALL day!! Or, My kids will want to talk to me and I will have them to come while I’m cooking or doing dishes and I often hear them say “Mom, are you listening?”
This morning I woke up, fixed coffee, had breakfast with my daughter, and then she left for school. I didn’t sit around long because I had quite a bit of housework to do; don’t we always? Ladies, I have news for you, that will never end. I was feeling pretty close to the Lord, as I had just come off a fast with my husband and church. I was going along talking and ”spending time” with Him while cleaning when all of a sudden I heard His still small voice say, “Brandy, I want some one on one time with you.” I immediately stopped in my tracks. Literally. I was putting clothes from the washing machine into the dryer and I stopped right where I was and sat down. I just took the clothes I had in my hand and hung them right over the washer door.
My Lord had just told me that He wanted me to be one on one with Him. He wanted all of my attention, all of my focus, all of me….
I don’t know about you ladies, but that made me want to crawl up in His lap and forget the rest of the world. How awesome is it that the Lord of all the universe wants me ALL TO HIMSELF??? Wow…
I have news for you. He wants YOU all to himself, too. He loves you and desires for you to come to Him like a child and give Him your all. Are you giving Him your all? I know I haven’t been. It’s hard when there are things that need to be done. But here’s the thing, there will ALWAYS be things that need attention. That laundry I was doing? It will be there later. Oh who am I kidding, it will forever be there! (As long as I am alive) So it’s okay to let the laundry wait. I am not giving a free pass to not do housework here; I am just saying that our time with the Lord should come first. Above anything else, Jesus should be number one in our lives.
I have to ask myself the question that if I’m not giving the Lord one on one time daily, am I missing something? Because to be honest, when my kids or husband are talking to me while I’m doing something, there are more times than I care to admit I’ve missed something. How do I know this? Because they say to me “Mom, did you hear me?” They know. They know when I haven’t heard them.
I wonder what blessings I have missed just because I was just too busy. I don’t know about you but I want to hear everything the Lord has to say to me. I want to receive all that He has for me. But, to do that, I MUST have one on one time with Him.
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
